Well established on the national and international art circuits, Adelaide-based artist, Keren Seelander, produces works rich in colour and sophistication.
Seelander’s works have a primal quality, finely balanced with the use of sublime and layered colour. Her striking tangerines and yellows, intense blues and dazzling crimsons resonate in combination with skilled manipulation of black.
Many of these works evoke a meditative quietness and an impression of endless space and time, with a minimalist focus on a few main features. In some works, the ground is a single field of colour, the hues subtly changing to suggest variations in light.
Seelander’s works are strong and unashamedly modern, reflecting the multi-cultural nature of contemporary Australian society. Her work, whilst continuing to allude to European and American abstractionists, appears to increasingly embrace an Asian influence. This is apparent in the use of calligraphic-like markings, the scatterings of Japanese haiku.
Keren is represented in the collections of Faulding Pharmaceutical, Tobis Filmkunst Berlin, Cathedral Place Brisbane, ANZ Private Banking Group well as numerous important private collections in Australia, Germany, USA, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan.
