Alan Marshall is an English born and trained artist who has resided in Perth since 1981, having successfully exhibited at Greenhill Galleries for over 20 years.
Marshall’s beautiful oil paintings are best experienced through silent contemplation. Following no set ideas or style, Marshall allows personal events and past travel experiences to guide his direction, thus creating each painting as an individual.
Alan retains the tranquil, poetic imagery that can be found in his earlier paintings, exploring the female form, European landscape and still life. Through the skilful use of light and dark contrast in his works, Marshall produces paintings that are both compelling and atmospheric.
In 1976, he was among a group of British artists granted awards by the Arts Council of Great Britain. He lived for a time in France working in Paris and Provence and later in Barcelona, Catalonia and Southern Spain. Marshall illustrated the cover of a volume of poetry by West Australian Poet, Patrick Finn, and his work features in the book "New Art Eight; Profiles in Contemporary Australian Art", 1994.
Marshall has lived and worked in Australia, England, France, and Spain, and has exhibited extensively since 1961. He is represented by numerous national and international collections around the world, including Parliament House, Canberra, Ministry for the Arts, Adelaide, Abensperg - Traun Collection, Vienna and Coopers and Lybrand Corporate Collection, Sydney.
